Signs of a broken motor mount
- Heavy vibration at idle, especially in drive
- A clunk when shifting into drive or reverse
- The engine visibly rocking when you rev it
- Banging over bumps or when you hit the gas
Why it matters
A broken mount lets the engine move more than it should. That puts extra strain on the other mounts, hoses, wiring and axles. Replacing it early keeps one cheap part from damaging others.
Common on Hondas
Civics, Accords and other Hondas are known for worn mounts. The broken mount in our photo came off a Civic, replaced right at the curb.
